With a surface area of 34700 Ha, Analamerana boasts exceptional ecosystems that are home to a rich and unique biodiversity. It is one of the forty-three (43) Protected Areas managed by Madagascar National Parks, located in northern Madagascar.
Thanks to vegetation consisting essentially of a dense dry deciduous forest, occupying 42.5% of the PA’s surface area, the Reserve’s flora is made up of around 140 species, with an endemicity rate of 85%. Among these taxa, 03 species of Madagascar baobab have been identified, including Adansonia suareziensis, A. perrieri and A. madagasariensis. The Reserve’s terrestrial fauna includes: 9 species of lemur, including Propithecus perrieri classified as critically endangered (CR), 32 species of reptile, 12 species of amphibian, 79 species of bird, 10 species of small mammal
Main ecological features: RS Analamerana is characterized by a diversity of ecosystems, including dense dry forests, mangroves and swamps, which are home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. Nevertheless, these ecosystems are under serious threat from riparian community practices such as bush fires and various forms of logging such as clearing and selective logging. These practices lead to the destruction of native vegetation and disrupt the habitats of the animal species that live there.
The Analamerana forest had already attracted the attention of the colonial administration even before Madagascar's independence. Indeed, the process of its creation defined under Decree n°56-208 of February 20, 1956, a Special Reserve under the management of Eaux et Forêts (DEF), through the Triangle Forestier d'Anivorano-Nord.
