Madagascar National Parks adopts a co-management approach in collaboration with local communities to respond to socio-economic pressures while safeguarding ecosystems.

A solid partnership for shared results

Co-management with local communities:
- Training and capacity-building for COSAPs (Comité de Soutien et d'Orientation aux Aires Protégées) and CLPs (Comités Locaux de Parc).
- Implementation of shared management contracts.
- Integration of local practices in the management of Protected Areas.
Community development:
- Support for sustainable agriculture and reforestation projects.
- Support for the implementation of income-generating activities.
- Improvement of local infrastructures.
Combating anthropogenic pressures:
- Environmental education and awareness-raising.
- Monitoring and combating illegal exploitation (poaching, deforestation, fires) in collaboration with local communities.
