Integral nature reserves

Madagascar National manages Madagascar's 02 Integral Nature Reserves, which are Tsaratanana and Betampona.

The Integral Nature Reserve aims to :

preserve ecosystems and endemic endangered species in a wild area, taking into account the area necessary for the viability of the species and in conditions that are as undisturbed as possible;
maintaining genetic and biological resources;
conserve exemplary natural environments for the purposes of scientific study and continuous environmental monitoring, including reference areas, excluding all unnecessary access; and
promote Malagasy rites and customs to conserve sacred wild areas and resources.

Access to and use of natural resources are prohibited throughout an Integral Nature Reserve, except for research purposes or very specific ritual purposes approved in the Development and Management Plan.
