National Parks

Madagascar National Parks manages 27 National Parks spread throughout the Malagasy territory.

The National Park aims to :

protect natural regions and landscapes of national, regional or communal importance for ecological, spiritual, scientific, educational, recreational or ecotourism purposes;
establish a system of sustainable management of the ecosystem for the above purposes, in particular for the management of ecotourism;
to perpetuate in as natural conditions as possible representative examples of physiographic regions, biological communities, genetic resources and species so as to guarantee ecological stability and diversity;
ensure respect for ecological and geomorphological features and
to satisfy the needs of riparian populations, through the use of resources for subsistence purposes, to the extent compatible with the other management objectives.

The following are prohibited throughout a National Park: the slaughter, hunting and capture of animals and the destruction or collection of plants, except for scientific reasons or for the needs of development or public order, under the control and direction of the Protected Area manager.
