Madagascar National Parks manages 14 Special Reserves...

The Special Reserve is created to guarantee and maintain the habitat conditions necessary for the preservation of species, groups of species, biological communities or important physical elements of the natural environment where, in general, human intervention is required to optimise management.

Hunting, fishing, the slaughter or capture of animals, the removal of coral and shellfish and the collection of timber and non-timber forest products for the benefit of local communities for commercial purposes are regulated within a Special Reserve.
